We had a range of fascinating debates today based on the title of our learning programme this year. We started with a discussion about what these concepts meant and considered why they impacted on our learning in English. We determined that they all linked together and worked together to come up with an understanding of literary context.
Kasey posed the question, “Are we going to be learning about politics?” This lead to a conversation about how politics invades all of our lives and consequently literature.
We followed this by exploring the title for our unit of work this term: ‘Anti-heroes in literature’. Examining the qualities of heroes and anti-heroes starting with the characters of Harry Potter and Snape, we again came across some difficult questions.
- Is Robin Hood a hero or an anti-hero? He steals but he is stealing goods that have already been stolen…
- Where does the line lie between villain and anti-hero?
- Can anyone ever be truly heroic?
We will come back to the last question on the image file again in tomorrow’s lesson and continue to explore the link between this unit of work and our over arching title.
I have also attached today’s ‘tick list’, which shows who came to my notice today for their excellent contributions. Keep it up!
